About Fishn Buddy

Fishn Buddy is a free fishing companion that provides real-time forecasts, tide charts, weather conditions, and solunar data for over 3,900 fishing locations across all 50 US states.

Our Data Sources

All tide and water level data comes directly from NOAA Tides & Currents. Weather forecasts are sourced from the National Weather Service. We update data in real-time so you always have the latest conditions.

Fishing Score

Our 1–10 fishing score combines six factors: tide movement, solunar feeding periods, weather conditions, barometric pressure, wind speed, and moon phase. It's designed to give you a quick read on how productive your fishing session is likely to be.

Solunar Theory

Solunar periods are times when fish are predicted to be most active based on the position of the moon and sun. We calculate four daily feeding windows, two major and two minor, for every location.

Coverage

We cover coastal tide stations, inland lakes, rivers, and reservoirs across all 50 states. Each location page includes a 7-day forecast, current conditions, sun/moon times, solunar periods, and, for coastal locations, interactive tide charts.

Who Runs Fishn Buddy

Fishn Buddy is built and run by Brandon Wheeler, a Midwest-based developer and lifelong angler, as part of a small independent portfolio of outdoor and hobby sites. There is no content team or marketing agency behind it. The person who wrote the code and the gear guides is the one who reads your email.

How We Test Gear

Our blog includes buyer guides for rods, reels, tackle, and electronics. A few rules keep those honest:

  • We fish with this gear. Recommendations come from actual time on the water. Products we personally own are marked "I own this one" right in the guides, so you can tell first-hand experience from researched picks.
  • Researched picks are labeled as such. Where we have not owned a product, picks are based on specs, long-term owner reviews, and comparison against gear we do own. We never invent hands-on claims.
  • No pay-for-placement. Manufacturers cannot buy a ranking, and we do not run sponsored gear posts.

Affiliate Disclosure

Some links in our gear guides are Amazon affiliate links. If you buy through one, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That commission never decides what we recommend. Affiliate income is what keeps the forecasts, depth maps, and lake pages free.
